The 1850 Census, Pike County, AL, Eastern Precinct, Family #814, lists:

This would make Martin born in 1841-42. The 1900 Census gives his birth as 1845, but from all records 1841-42 is probably correct.
The 1860 Pike Co. censuslist:
Van Buren Boswell, 16, M, Mail Carrier
living with the George Powell family.
The Book "Records of Confederate Soldiers from Pike County, Ala. 1861-1865" lists the following:
"Pvt. M. V. Boswell, Co. H, 18th Ala. Infantry Regiment, CSA, Survived the War"
Just after returning from the War Martin married. The abstracted marriage records of Pike County, AL, lists the following:
M. V. Boswell to Milly Tower, 25 May, 1865. Book 5 p 144

The 1870 Pike Co. Census, Eastern Precinct, lists:
Van M. Boswell, 28, Head, b Alabama (wrong), farmer
Milley " 29, Wife, b Alabama,
William L. " 2, Son, b Alabama
Tower, David A. 8, Step-son b Alabama

The abstracted marriage records ofPike County lists;
Goode D. Tower to Nancy Jane Hightower, 5 Nov 1854. B. 4 p. 51
Goode D. Tower to Milley Ann Ammons, 18 Jan 1862, B. 4 p. 376

Milly Tower is almost certainly Milley Ann Ammons. Apparently she and Goode D. Tower married in 1864 and David A. Tower was born in 1863. Mr. Tower then disappearsand in 1865 Milley married Martin. Three years later William L. Boswell was born. William appears in the 1870 census but must have died before the 1880 census in which he does not appear. According to the 1900 Census Milly bore 6 children 4 of whom were still living in 1900. The living must have been Samuel, Lula, Callie and David L. Tower. William probably died and there must have been another child who died very young, between the 10-year census periods.

The 1880 Census, Pike Co., Ala., Orion precinct, lists:
Martin, age 35, Millie, age 35, David, age 16, Lula, age 5, and Callie, age 4. William L. is not listedand Samuel was not yet born (1882).

The 1900 Census, Pike Co., Ala.,Orion precinct,pages 89A and 90A, lists the following:
Boswell, Martin V., Head (of household) b. July 1845 in NC, age 54, married 35 years, father born NC, mother born SC, farmer, can't read or write;
" " MillieA., wife, b. July 1841, age 58 married 35 years, mother of 6 children, 4children living, born Ala, father born NC, Mother SC, can read.(One of Millie's children who died must have been William L.Boswell.)
" " Samuel (initial smudged), born Jan. 1882, age 18, son,born Ala., father in NC, mother in AL, farm laborer, can read andwrite.
Tower, David A.(in same household) step-son, b. Sept. 1863 in AL,age 36. father born NC, mother in AL.
Bethea, Lorence E., son-in-law, b. July 1853 in AL, age 46, parents both born in AL
Bethea, Lula E., daughter, b. Aug 1875 in AL., age 24, married 1 year, no children, can readand write.

The 1860 Census, Pike Co., AL, Eastern precinct, page 330 lists:

Milley A. ", age 18,F (this would make her born 1841-42)

I believe that Milley A. Ammons married Goode D. Tower in 1862, had a childDavid L. who lived and possibly a child who died. She and Martin were then married in 1865.

Martin is probably buried in either the Zion Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Pike Co. or the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Bullock County (directions: "On State Hwy. 223, approximately 3.5 miles north of the PikeCo. line and 1 mile north of the intersection of SR 223 and Co. Rd. 8.
