Toliver Watson Wallace
Toliver Watson Wallace moved to Marietta, Cobb County, GA about 1866-1867 with his parents and several siblings. He was about 20 years old and single at the time of the 1870 US Federal Census for Marietta, Cobb County, GA. His occupation was farming. It is believed he lived on the same property as his parents, Toliver and Nancy (Dycus) Wallace.
In 1875 and 1876 he served as a constable for the Marietta #898 General Militia District: “T. W. Wallace, principal with H. B. Wallis as security bonded for $500 as constable for #898 G.M. district on 5 Jan 1875, before H. M. Hammet, ordy. Oath of T. W. Wallis” [Cobb County, GA – Bond Book A, Page 192].
“Toliver W. Wallace, principal with R. H. McCutcheson and P. H. Lyon as securities bonded for $500 on 22 May 1875…elected constable for #898 G. M. District, before H. M. Hammett, ordy. Oath of T. W. Wallace" [Cobb County, GA – Bond Book A, Page 213].
"T. W. Wallace, principal with J. P. Wallace and H. B. Wallace as securities bonded for $500 on 13 Jan 1876 .... appointed constable of #898 G. M. District, before H. M. Hammett, ordy. Oath of Toliver Wallace" [Cobb County, GA – Bond Book A, Page 220].
These entries are interpreted as H B Wallis (in the first case), R H McCutcheson and P H Lyon (in the second case) and J P Wallace and H B Wallace (in the third case) acted as security for the bonds put up by T W Wallis for the purpose of standing for election as constable for the #898 GM District of Cobb County and then holding the office on two separate occasions.
After marrying Eliza Jane Rainey about 1878, they moved briefly to Piedmont in Calhoun County, AL where their first son, Oscar Kelly Wallace, was born. When Kelly was 6 months old, the family returned to Cobb County, GA.
At the time of the1880 US Federal Census for Marietta, Cobb County, GA, Toliver (30), Eliza (20) and Oscar (1) live in dwelling 547 next door to Toliver's father and mother. Toliver's occupation is farm worker.
The fate of Toliver Watson Wallace is clouded in mystery. His son Oscar would not talk about him. No one has been found who knows what happened to him. His wife Eliza remarried 07 Oct 1899 and moved to TX between 1900 and 1910.
