Jacob died in 1909, said to be 104 years old. He gave a variety of birth dates to the census takers over the years. In the census of 1850 he was married to Denise (b. 1822) about 1839. In 1860 and certain deeds she is known as Mavis, and in 1870 Mavy, but the birth date are still the same so we may be dealing with a woman who had begun to use her second name, rather than a second wife. There children were 1: Andrew M. (b. 1840SC probably the Mathew who enlisted from Conway in 1861 and d. 1862); 2: James R. (b. 1841SC );
3: Francis H(arlee) (b. 1842SC); 1f: Nancy E (b.1844SC); 2f: Margaret M D
(b.1846SC); 4: Everett E.* (b. 1851SC); 5: Jacob J(asper) (b. 1856SC m. Marinda dau. of George Fowler); 6: Wright M.* (1859SC); Alva C. (b. 1863SC m. Callissa dau of Richard Fowler); Edward S. (b. 1867SC). Family tradition lists Frank, who is certainly Francis, and Ethel who may be Nancy E; and Manuel*, but there is little evidence for two Manuels,* and the census of 1880 lists Manuel as Josiah Byrd`s son. They lived near Dogwood Church.
The above by Richard G. Fowler, from his book ( A History Of The Fowler Family OF Southeastern North Carolina.)
(*) Everett E. Fowler was known as Ethel. See 1900 census wifes name was
Mantha (Graham) she is buried in family cemetery on the farm that Ethel owned
on her marker it states that she was wife of Ethel Fowler.
(*) Manuel, was always listed as Wright W. Fowler or as in 1900 Horry County census as Right M. Fowler, but we can identify him by his son Giley D. Fowler, and his two Step-daughters Lona, and Manda. Plus an interview in 1994 with Giley`s daughter Lula (Fowler) Soles, she told me that Manuel, and Ethel, both were buried in the family cemetery, without markers. Her father and mother are both buried there with markers.
