John Marlow was born on/or abt 1765 in Maryland[1]. His parents were Richard Marlow and Lydia Berry[2][3]. John came from Maryland to Kentucky abt 1812 and lived in the Ohio and Breckinridge counties.
Purchased 179 acres on Adam's Creek in Ohio County, KY in 1814. On margin of this deed is written "delivered to Hanson Marlow 11/16/1817"[4].
IAW Breckinridge County Records Vol III dated 18 December 1820 p.174, John Fisher came into court and moved the court for leave to administer on the estate of John Marlow, deceased and also made it appear to the satisfaction of the court that Elizabeth Marlow widow of the said deceased was willing and in fact wished him to administer on the said estate. Whereupon administration is granted him in due form, whereupon he took the oath required by law and with Robert Stephens his security entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $1500 conditioned agreeable to law, and thereupon Letters of Administration is granted him in due form. p.175, Ordered that James Jennings, Charles Flanagan, Benjamin Muffit and John Thrasher or any three of them being duly sworn do appraise in current money the slaves if any and personal estate of John Marlow, dec'd. and make report thereof agreeably to law.
IAW Breckinridge County Records Vol III dated 15 January 1821 p. 182, John Fisher, adm. Of John Marlow, dec’d., exhibited in court an Inventory and appraisement of the estate, which is ordered to be recorded. Also exhibited an account of the sales of said estate which is also ordered to be recorded.
p. 182, On the motion of John Fisher, administrator of John Marlow, dec’d., it is ordered that John Murray, Robert Huston and Andrew Rowan or any two of them duly sworn do settle with the said Fisher the accounts of his administration, and make return thereof agreeably to law.
John Marlow, as the story is told, died on a riverboat on the Ohio River headed to New Orleans for supplies in 1820.
