Pennsylvania Records
Will proved on 6 June 1783 in Lancaster County for Adam Gieg of Brecknock Township. Wife Elizabeth. Sons: Michael and Baltzer. Dated 12 October 1782.

Trinity Lutheran Church, New Holland, Lancaster County: Baltzer and Cath[erine] Gich were sponsors for Jacob Hoffman, son of Jacob and A[nna] Maria Hoffman, baptized 19 April 1767, and for a child of Joh. and Barbara Northernman, 8 June 1767. They were communicants in 1766 and 1769.

Georg Schlauch of Caernarvon Township and Cathatina Gich, daughter of Adam Gig (sic), of Brecknock Township, were married in the parsonage 28 August 1764.

Maria Catherine, born 4 April 1762, baptized 9 May 1762, daughter of Hieronimus Gieg and Rosina his wife. Sponsors: Joh. Georg Schlauch and Maria Ccathatina Giegin.

Records of pastoral acts at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Holland, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 1730-1799

Balthasar, Baltzer, came to America in September of 1753 aboard the ship Neptune a year before the rest of the family arrived. He is listed in the 1753 and 1754 Philadelphia early census. He resided first in Brecknock Twp and then neighboring Caernarvon Twp in the eastern part of Lancaster County. In 1774 he moved to Chanceford Twp of York County. For two years, 1779 and 1780, he resided in Manheim Twp of York Co, likely working as a blacksmith at the Mary Ann Furnace. He returned to Chanceford Twp in 1781. He likely moved to Morgan Co. VA (now West Virginia) about 1785 and then according to tax roles moved to Huntingdon Co PA in 1796 with his son Jacob and was joined shortly thereafter by his son Peter. Balzer's family was listed as a total of 5 in 1783. There is a reference in a biography that Balzer was a blacksmith, a known fact, and that he shod horses for the military during the Revolutionary War. He certainly would have shod horses for a number of people and likely some, but not all, could have been soldiers.

Hchst im Odenwald is a different town than Hchst - both are in the same area of Darmstadt in Hesse. Need to determine which is the right place. In the book Pennsylvania German Roots Across The Ocean it says the Giegs are from Hchst im Odenwald.
