Inspeximus of a decree of the Court of Wards Ce R/13 11 Feb 1578 Contents: John Drables on behalf of William Seliock, a ward, plaintiffs, v. Clement Duncombe, William Duncombe, gentleman, Susan Seliock, widow, and Edmund Stephenson, defendants, had appeared before the court. The plaintiffs had produced evidences to show that the manor of Dronfelde, late in the possession of George Seliock, deceased, father of the ward, was held of the Crown by knight service, but the defendants had contended it was held of the heirs of Tatersall by socage. The court found for the plaintiffs and ordered that it should be found by office that the manor was held of the Crown and that the deeds and evidences should be brought into court (copies of any that appertain to her jointure to be supplied to Susan Seliock). Susan Seliock, Clement Duncombe and others, defendants, had appeared before the court and it had been found that the manor of Dronfyeld was part of the inheritance of George Seliock, deceased, father of the ward, and was held by knight service in chief from the crown, that it ought to be found by office after the death of the aforesaid George, that a commission had been appointed, but that the jury had absented themselves. It is now ordered that the jury are to appear and give a verdict and find the office under pain of a fine of 100 marks. Signed by Lord Burghley as Master of the Court of Wards).
