    ETIENNE de Bretagne, son of EUDES de Bretagne Comte de Penthi√®vre & his wife Orguen [Agn√®s] de Cornoua√Ølle ([1058/62]-21 Apr [1135/36], bur York, St Mary or Saint-Brieuc).¬â€  The Genealogia Comitum Richemundi√¶ names "Alanum·Ä¶Rufum·Ä¶Alanus Niger·Ä¶Stephanus" as the three sons of "Eudo Comes Britanni√¶", stating that Etienne succeeded his brother "in honorem Richemundi√¶", dying "Id Apr·Ä¶1164"[369].¬â€  His absence from the charter dated to [1056/60], witnessed by "comes Eudo, uxor eius Orguen et filii eorum Gausfridus, Alanus, Willelmus, Rotbertus, Ricardus·Ä¶"[370], suggests that he was born after the date of the document or must have been too young to have subscribed it.¬â€  This hypothesis is also consistent with his death in [1135/36], when he would have been around 75 years old if he had been born towards the end of his father·Äôs life.¬â€  He succeeded his brother Geoffroy (or Geoffroy's son) [in 1093] as Comte de Penthi√®vre, and in his other lands in Brittany.¬â€  He succeeded his brother Alain "the Black" as Lord of Richmond in Yorkshire in 1098.¬â€  ·ÄúStephanus comes Britanni√¶·Äù donated property to Rumburgh priory, for the souls of ·Äúcomitissa Haudewisa·Ä¶filiorum meorum et filiarum·Ä¶Galfridi·Ä¶Alani, Henrici·Äù by undated charter[371].¬â€
