RUDOLF, son of [NIBELUNG Graaf van Betuwe & his wife --- de Hainaut] .Vanderkindere names "Baldâ©ric I de Liâ®ge et Rodolphe" as the two sons of "Nâ©velong" but he does not cite the corresponding primary source[657]. The primary source which confirms Rudolf¬¥s parentage has not yet been identified. However, the transmission of the name Baldric into the family of the Comtes de Looz is consistent with Rudolf being closely related to Nibelung Graaf van Betuwe. Mantelius says that Rudolf was the son of Reginar II Comte de Hainaut, cited in charters until 24 Jan 966 (see the document HAINAUT)[658]. He does not cite the primary source on which he bases this assertion, but his work on the early generations of the Looz family does not inspire confidence as his reconstruction is inconsistent in other details with the primary sources which are quoted in the present document. m ---. The name and origin of Rudolf's wife is not known. However, Vanderkindere suggests that she was ---, daughter of Immo Comte de Hesbaye, to explain the transmission of the name Immo into this family[659], although this cannot be the only explanation for the introduction of the name into the family. Widukind records that "Immo" offered "unicam filiam" to "Ansfrid" as a means of capturing the latter[660].

1.¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â RICFRIED¬â [Dodo] (-before 950).¬â The Memorial of "Ricfridus hoc nomine Dodo vocatus·Ä¶comes" names "presul Baldricus·Ä¶preses Rodolphus·Ä¶rector Yrimfredus pariterque comes Nevelongus" as his children and "Herisindâ¶" as their mother, recording that she was buried with her husband[632].¬â ¬â Graaf¬â van Betuwe: "Zuendeboldus·Ä¶rex" gave "villam ex nostra abbatial Capremons dicta Ren·Ä¶ex sua proprietate in pago Battauui in comitatu Dodonis" to "nostro comiti Folcberto" by charter dated 11 Jul 897[633].¬â ¬â m¬â HERENSINDA, daughter of ---.¬â The Memorial of "Ricfridus hoc nomine Dodo vocatus·Ä¶comes" names "presul Baldricus·Ä¶preses Rodolphus·Ä¶rector Yrimfredus pariterque comes Nevelongus" as his children and "Herisindâ¶" as their mother, recording that she was buried with her husband[634].¬â Ricfried & his wife had five children:
a)¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â EHRENFRIED¬â (-1 Nov ----).¬â The Memorial of "Ricfridus hoc nomine Dodo vocatus·Ä¶comes" names "presul Baldricus·Ä¶preses Rodolphus·Ä¶rector Yrimfredus pariterque comes Nevelongus" as his children and "Herisindâ¶" as their mother[635].¬â [same person as·Ä¶?¬â ¬â ANSFRID¬â [II] (-after 969).¬â A charter of Lorsch dated 969 refers to property "in pago Dehsendron in prâ¶fidatu Ansfridi comitis"[636].]¬â Vanderkindere suggests that Ansfrid [II] was the maternal, not paternal, uncle of Ansfrid [III], and that he was the same person as Ehrenfried, son of Ricfrid[637], which would require a loose interpretation of Thietmar who refers to the "like-named paternal uncle ("patruo") of Count Ansfrid" who held fifteen countships[638].¬â It also assumes that Ehrenfried, son of Ricfried, was the same person as Ehrenfried, count in several different counties, who is shown in¬â Europâ§ische Stammtafeln[639]¬â as son of Eberhard Graf im Bonngau and ancestor of the Pfalzgrafen von Lothringen (see the document GERMANY EARLY NOBILITY).]¬â
b)¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â NIBELUNG¬â (-before 953).¬â The Memorial of "Ricfridus hoc nomine Dodo vocatus·Ä¶comes" names "presul Baldricus·Ä¶preses Rodolphus·Ä¶rector Yrimfredus pariterque comes Nevelongus" as his children and "Herisindâ¶" as their mother[640].¬â ¬â Graaf van Betuwe¬â 943.¬â ¬â m¬â ---¬â de Hainaut, daughter of REGINAR [II] Comte de Hainaut & his wife ---.¬â Her origin is deduced from the¬â Gesta Abbatum Gemblacensium¬â referring to "Raginero comiti·Ä¶Longicollus" as "primi Baldrici Leodicensium episcopi avunculus"[641], although it appears chronologically more likely that "Raginero" was Reginar [III] rather than his paternal grandfather Reginar [I], an interpretation which appears confirmed by the same source recording the death in battle at Florennes of "Lantbertum comitem filium Ragineri Longicolli"[642].¬â This assumes that "primi Baldrici" was the bishop whose installation in 955 is recorded in the following paragraph of the¬â Gesta[643], which also appears correct from the context.¬â Her parentage is confirmed by the charter dated 24 Jun 943 under which ·ÄúBaldricus...Traiectensis ecclâ¶sie...presul...per manus advocati mei Folberti·Äù, addressing [her as] ·Äúnobilissime probateque Deo sacrate·Äù [unnamed], granted ·Äúres...de abbatia...Hereberc...mansos...Rura, Liethorp, Linne, Sulethum, Flothorp, Ascolon, Malicalieol, Curnelo·Äù to ·Äúfilius vester...Baldricus in vita sua...post eum Rodulfus frater suus·Äù, for the souls of ·Äúgenitoris nostri Raineri comitis et insuper Nevelungi senioris vestri·Äù[644].¬â 958.¬â Nibelung & his wife had [three] children:¬â

ii)¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â BALDRIC¬â [II] (-20 Apr 959, bur Liâ®ge St Jacques).¬â His parentage is confirmed by the charter dated 24 Jun 943 under which [his paternal uncle] ·ÄúBaldricus...Traiectensis ecclâ¶sie...presul...per manus advocati mei Folberti·Äù, addressing [Baldric¬¥s mother as] ·Äúnobilissime probateque Deo sacrate·Äù [unnamed], granted ·Äúres...de abbatia...Hereberc...mansos...Rura, Liethorp, Linne, Sulethum, Flothorp, Ascolon, Malicalieol, Curnelo·Äù to ·Äúfilius vester...Baldricus in vita sua...post eum Rodulfus frater suus·Äù, for the souls of ·Äúgenitoris nostri Raineri comitis et insuper Nevelungi senioris vestri·Äù[647].¬â Abbot of Lobbes.¬â The¬â Gesta Abbatum Gemblacensium¬â records that "Raginero comiti·Ä¶Longicollus·Ä¶primi Baldrici Leodicensium episcopi avunculus" granted his nephew the benefice of "abbatiam Lobiensem"[648].¬â ¬â Bishop of Liâ®ge¬â 955.¬â The¬â Gesta Abbatum Gemblacensium¬â records the installation of "Baldricus" as bishop of Liâ®ge in 955[649].¬â The¬â Annales Lobienses¬â record that "Ratherio" was expelled and "Baldricus" succeeded to "Leodicensium episcopium"[650].¬â Sigebert's¬â Chronica¬â records in 956 that, after "Ratherio ab episcopatu Leodicensium eiecto", ·ÄúBaldricus annuente avunculo suo Raginero comite Montinese·Äù was appointed bishop[651].¬â The¬â Annales Stabulenses¬â record the death in 959 of "Baldricus episcopus" and the succession of "Everacrus"[652].¬â The¬â Annales Lobienses¬â record the death in 959 of "Baldricus Leodicensium episcopus" and the successsion of "Everacrus"[653].¬â
iii)¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â [BERTA¬â (-[30 Oct] ----).¬â Her origin is indicated by her son Arnoul [II] Comte de Valenciennes being recorded as a relative of Baldric [II] Bishop of Liâ®ge[654], who was Berta's brother according to the reconstruction proposed in the present document.¬â The¬â Gesta Abbatem Trudonensium¬â records that "illustris femina domna Bertha vidua et Deo sacrata comitissa Flandrie" donated property to Saint-Trond on her deathbed for her burial there, and that after she died "Arnulfo...filio suo Flandrensi comiti" donated property in ·Äúvillam Proviin in castellania Ylensi sitam iuxta fluvium Doulam...silvam...non longe a villa Merwel et unam decimam apud villam...Brustemium·Äù, adding that Berta died ·ÄúXVII Kal Aug·Äù 967[655].¬â A charter dated 1146 confirms the donation and names ·ÄúRegnier et Roger¬â [frâ®res d¬¥Arnoul de Valenciennes]...comtes Eremfrid et Rodolphe¬â [frâ®re et neveu de Baldric Bishop of Utrecht]·Äù as witnesses to the original charter[656].¬â The necrology of Liâ®ge Saint-Lambert records the death "III Kal Nov" of "Berte comitisse qui dedit nobis Crehem"[657], which which may refer to the wife of Comte Arnoul [I] as the deaths of her son and grandson are also recorded in the same source.¬â ¬â m¬â ARNOUL de Cambrai, son of [ISAAC Comte de Cambrai & his wife ---] (-967).]¬â
