FYI: Back this far, there were no dâ©partments. Therefore, Marne does not apply. French dâ©partments were proposed in 1665. The idea arose for infrastructure reasons: distinguishing regional boundaries in relation to where Ponts et Chaussâ©es (Bridges & Highways) would be built.

HUGUES [II] "Bardoul" de Broyes (-before 1121).
His parentage is confirmed by a charter dated 1081 under which "comes Stephanus Henricusဦconsulis Theobaldi filius" confirmed donations to Troyes, including the donation made by "Bartholomeusဦdominus Brecarum milesဦipsius Bartholomei filiusဦorphanus et parvulus" for the souls of "patris sui atque avi cognomine eius qui etဦBardulphus cognominatur"[61].
The Acta Sanctorum commentary on the life of St Simon de Valois records that "Aaliz" daughter of Raoul Comte de Valois and his first wife married "Bartolomeus, juvenis de Breias" by whom she was mother of "Hugonem Bardoul"[62].
Seigneur de Broyes, de Beaufort, d'Arc-en-Barrois, de Baye, de Trilbardou et de Charmentray.
The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines records that "Hugoဦcognomento Bardol domnusဦde Broyes" invaded "Barrum-super-Albam et Firmitatemဦde assensu regis Philippi" after the death of "comitis Veromandie [error for Valois] Rodolfi" [his supposed maternal grandfather][63].
Given that the death of Raoul [III] Comte de Valois is dated to 1074, Hugues would have been a minor at the time. It is assumed, therefore, either that Alberic intended to indicate Hugues·Äôs father as the protagonist or that the attack was carried out by Hugues·Äôs guardian in his name.
Albert of Aix records that "ဦHugo Bardulfus de Breisဦ" joined with the Lombard contingent on the second wave of the First Crusade, dated to late 1100 from the context[64].
"Hugo Bardulfus dominus Brecensis" donated "villam·Ä¶Payacum" to Molesme, with the consent of "uxoris meⶠEmelinâ¶, filiorumque meorum Simonis et Bartholomei", by charter dated 1104[65].
m EMMELINE de Montlhâ©ry, daughter of MILON [I] "le Grand" Seigneur de Montlhâ©ry & his wife Lithuaise Vicomtesse de Troyes (-1121).
The Continuation de l·ÄôHistoire d·ÄôAimonus names "matrem Simonis de Breiis, matrem Guidonis de Dominapetra, matrem Hugonis de Planceio, matrem Milonis de Erucio, matrem Salonis vicecomitis Senonensis" as the daughters of "Milo [de Brayo, frater Guidonis Rubei]"[66].
A charter dated 1089 records property "apud Fontanetum" donated to Saint-Pierre la Celle de Troyes donated by "domno Hugone Bardulfo", with the consent of "ipsius domni Hugonis uxore Hemmelina"[67].
"Hugo Bardulfus dominus Brecensis" donated "villam·Ä¶Payacum" to Molesme, with the consent of "uxoris meⶠEmelinâ¶, filiorumque meorum Simonis et Bartholomei", by charter dated 1104[68].
Hugues [II] & his wife had [three] children:
SIMON [I] de Broyes (-[4 Jan 1137/1140], bur Baye, near Epernay). The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines names "Symon de Brois, qui iacet in Baia, filius Hugonis Bardol"[69]. Seigneur de Broyes, de Beaufort et de Baye ...
BARTHELEMY de Broyes . "Hugo Bardulfus dominus Brecensis" donated "villam·Ä¶Payacum" to Molesme, with the consent of "uxoris meⶠEmelinâ¶, filiorumque meorum Simonis et Bartholomei", by charter dated 1104[70].
[MARIE de Broyes . A charter dated 1131 records donations made by "Simon dominus Brecensis", with the consent of "uxoris suⶠet liberorum suorum·Ä¶Hugonis, Simonis et Emelinâ¶", as well as a donation by "Maria·Ä¶de Brecis" with the consent of "Helias·Ä¶dominus Montismirabilis"[71]. The document does not specify any relationship between Marie de Broyes and the other donors, but presumably she was a close member of the family maybe Simon·Äôs sister.
