«b»Excerpt of Will and other Information for Benjamin Field«/b»
At the beginning of the 18th Century the people of West Jersey being 8000 strong, looked with longing upon the northern territory still held by Indians. John Wills, William Biddle, Jr. and John Reading were appointed to treat with the natives.
June 27, 1703 it was reported they had an agreement with Himhammoe for lands on both sides of the Raritan River and with Coponnockom for land along the Delaware, including Lambertville, containing 150,000 acres @ 700 lbs. It was proposed to allow 5000 acres to each proprietor. Nov. 2, 1703 the Indians were paid and deeds secured.
One of the first purchasers was Benjamin Field of Burlington, NJ receiving 1000 A on the Delaware and 2000 A near Ringoes. In 1701 there was a survey to Gov. A. Hamilton and Benjamin Field for the West Jersey Soc. 2000 A. This was from the purchase made by Adlord Boude. Also in 1702 a tract of 3000 A to Benjamin being near an Indian town called Nishalemensey at Allexhocken brook. The 3000 A tract surveyed in 1702 was not fully conveyed to him on account of his sudden death. His will dated 5/13/1702, his wife Experience, sole Executrix, shows he did own 1650 A of that tract.
His death was recorded in Burlington Friends MM as 3/16/1702 and says he was the brother of Susanna "meriott"
