The Parentage of John Macomber and Alice Macomber Posted 23 jul 2015 by Niki Harrison McOmber Like 0 Comment 0 Share The Parentage of John Macomber and Alice Macomber[1]
At the time of this writing, the preponderance of available evidence indicates that the father of John Macomber (1585?-1650) is Thomas Macomber (1560?-1622), after whom John’s first son is named. However, all five elements of the Genealogical Proof Standard have not yet been completed regarding the father of John Macomber (1585?-1650), so the preponderance of existing evidence is not conclusive.[2] There is circumstantial evidence that Thomas Macomber (1560?-1622) came from Exeter, was living in Bridport in the late 1500s,[3] and was buried at the Bridport parish churchyard of Saint Mary on 21 February 1622.[4]
There is no credible evidence yet presented or readily available as to the identity of the mother of John Macomber.[5]
William Macomber (1609-1670) apparently had an aunt who resided in or near Bridport as well: Alice Macomber, the sister of John Macomber (1585?-1650). The Bridport parish register notes that Alice Macomber married William Holloway at the Bridport parish church of Saint Mary in 1617,[6] and apparently had at least six children christened at Saint Mary between 1618 and 1630. There were Holloways noted in Plymouth Colony records affiliated with the Macomber family, which will be presented later as this biography unfolds.
