Ursel starb am 9. März 1564 kinderlos, woraufhin Johann von Ascheberg sich für den alleinigen und rechtmäßigen Besitzer des Rittergutes hielt. Bischof Bernhard von Raesfeld aus Münster unterstützte Alard von Hörde und zog mit Soldaten vor die Rauschenburg, die bis zu Johann von Aschebergs Gefangennahme beschossen wurde. Später kam es zu einem Vergleich, und beide lebten bis zu Johann von Aschebergs Tod 1577 auf der Burg.
