    The parents of these two probable siblings has been differently attributed. I have retained the family that is most closely aligned with "Jacob from Mannheim", but it may not be the correct family.

The two oldest children Jacob and Anna Catharina came first arriving in Philadelphia on September 15, 1748 aboard the ship "Two Brothers." Almost exactly a year later, on September 26, 1749, they were joined by their parents and younger siblings Anna Philippina and Johann Conrad who arrived aboard the ship "Ranier."

    Unless traveling alone, women's names were not included ships' lists but other records confirm their presence. An example is a list of communicants for the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania for Apr 14, 1750 which includes:

    Johann Friedrich Höck, the father
    Catharina Hoekin, the mother
    Philippina Hoeckin, the daughter Johann Conrad Höck, the son Valentin Hamen Anna Catharina Hamen, the older daughter

    Jacob and his sister Anna Catharina hadalready married by the time the rest of the family arrived. This brother and sister married another pair of siblings: Susanna Dorothea and Johann Valentine Hamme.

    Johann Friedrich died sometime before Sep 9, 1770 when letters of administration were granted to his son Jacob Hake for the "estate of Frederick Hake, late of York County, yeoman, deceased." The location of his grave has not been determined.

ohan Friederich Hö;ck's tombstone is in German but he was born in Pennsylvania. His grandparents Johann Friedrich Höck and Anna Catharine Fortbach immigrated to Pennsylvania from Burgholzhausen, Hessen, Germany in1749 with the younger two of their four children Johann Conrad and Anna Philippina; their two older children, Johan Jacob and Anna Catharina made the crossing a year earlier in 1748.

Johan Jacob and Johann Conrad both had sons named John Frederick and this has been a source of confusion. Family information included in an 1886 History of York Co, PA lists this John Frederick as the son of J. Conrad but Conrad's John Frederick was born July 17, 1761. J. Jacob's son was born in June 5, 1759. The issue of which is which is not settled and the birth date discrepency on the tombstone is troubling and adds to the confusion - but I believe it is more likely to have the correct year and wrong month than the other way around. Therefore, I list the John Frederick Hake who died in 1830 as the son of John Jacob Hake (1724-1803) and Susanna Dorothea Hamme.

Child(ren):

  1. Susanna Hake  1734-????
  2. Anna Maria Hake  1740-1751
