In an article prepared by Peggy Smith Hake of St. Elizabeth, entitled, "Window|to the Past", the following account was written:||Anton Dubbert, son of Johannes and Elizabeth (Shauf) Dubbert, was born in|Lipstein, Germany on March 2, 1857. About 1872, at the age of 16 years, he|came to America and it is a family legend he was a stowaway on the ship that|brought him across the Atlantic. Eventually, he came to Miller County where he|married Josephine Hake on Feb. 16, 1885; she was a daughter of Bernard Henry|and Katherine (Wankum) Hake. Father Cosmos Seeberger, priest of St. Elizabeth|(Charlestown), performed her wedding ceremony.||There was another family named Dubbert living in Miller County in 1880, August|and Elizabeth Dubbert, with her 6 children. August may have been an older|brother or an uncle to Anton and perhaps that is why he ventured into Miller|County.||After Anton and Josephine married, they settled on a farm in the Big Tavern|country of Osage Township and for the remainder of his life he farmed his land|which was in the northeast part of the county, south of St. Elizabeth. Their|neighbors in the census of 1900 included John and Elizabeth (Buechter) Volmert,|Louisa Wilson, William R. Dake, Davis Hickey, William Deatley, and James Clark.||The children born to Anton and Josephine were: Henry Lawrence (1886-1914),|Frances Elizabeth (Dec. 23, 1887-May 13, 1978) whomarried William George|Kirkweg (1881-1962); Louis Benjamine (1889-1939); Paulus Anthony (1891-1937);|Theresa A. (Feb. 1894) who married Henry H. Boeckman; Cecelia T. (1895-1905);|John E. (1897-1901);John J. (1900-1976); and George (1904-1923).||Anton Dubbert died on Oct. 8, 1935 and was buried at St. Anthony Cemetery in|the small village of St. Anthony, Richwoods Township. He was buried besides|his wife, Josephine, who had died 10 years previously on Feb. 11, 1926.||Note: Peggy Smith Hake notes that she has in her possession a small obituary|that was written when Anton died in 1935, but itdid not give very much|information.
  • He died on October 8, 1935 in St. Anthony's, MO, he was 78 years old.
  • He is buried in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
