LifeSketch: James, second Lord Boyd, only son of Thomas, Earl of Arran, and grandson and heir of the first Lord Boyd. He was restored to the property by two charters, dated 14 October 1482, to his mother in liferent and to himself in fee, of the lands of Kilmarnock and others in Ayrshire; Teylyng and Brechty in Forfarshire; Caverstown in Roxburghshire; Naristoun in Lanarkshire and Polgavy in Perthshire, and had instrument of sasine on these as ‘James, Lord Boyd,’ in the barony of Kilmarnock, 22 October following, and in the lands of Monfod, Killbryd, Flat, Ravisdalemure, Dalry, 25 October, and in those of Ormsclench, Chapelton, Bollynschaw, Dririg, etc., 26 October.d Boyd, but it seems plain from this that they are wrong, and that his grandfather, having died between Easter 1480-81 and 14 October 1482, he was allowed by the King, his uncle to take the title. He is named James, Lord Boid, as a witness to a charter January 1483-84. d of Trochrig ‘in ipso adolescentis flore perlit inimicorum insidiis circumventus.’mes Balfour Paul, Vol V, Edinburgh, 1906, pp. 14-50
