      In 1890 is Célestine Bouckaert samen met haar zoon Hyppolite naar Rotterdam gekomen waar zij als werkster aan de slag ging bij diverse gezinnen in Rotterdam waar zij intern verbleef. Zij heeft zich bij de Burgerlijke Stand laten registreren als weduwe. In de huwelijksakte van hun zoon Hyppolite Emile wordt aangegeven dat ten tijde van het huwelijk in 1898 (dus ruim 8 jaar na de registratie in het bevolkingsregister) het beroep, de woonplaats en het in leven zijn van Modeste onbekend was. Modeste was van beroep zeeman. Het zou kunnen dat Modeste vermist is geraakt omdat hij niet is teruggekeerd van één van zijn zeereizen en een zeemansgraf heeft gekregen zonder dat zijn nabestaanden daarvan op de hoogte waren. Dat overlijden moet dus na het huwelijk in 1876, maar voor de komst van Célestine naar Rotterdam, hebben plaatsgevonden. Célestine zal geen gemakkelijk leven hebben gehad en als alleenstaande moeder vaak moeite hebben gehad om de eindjes aan elkaar te knopen. Haar voorlaatste adres op de kaart is het adres van het Leger des Heils (Schiedamsedijk 47).
      N.B. Hyppolite is bij aankomst in Rotterdam ingeschreven op een alleenstaandenkaart.
