    3 jaar nadat hun echtgenoot en vader, Arie Honig, de oversteek waagde naar het beloofde land, had Arie genoeg geld verdiend om zijn vrouw en dochter te laten overkomen.

    Zij vertrokken begin 1923 vanuit de haven van Rotterdam en kwamen op 23 april 1923 aan op Ellis Island, de toegangspoort tot Amerika voor miljoenen immigranten.

    Hoewel het huwelijk na aankomst in Amerika niet lang meer heeft geduurd, zijn alle gezinsleden tot aan hun dood in Amerika blijven wonen.

    Uit de verstrekte informatie op de passagierslijst blijkt dat Laurina en Jopie op weg waren naar hun man en vader, [Harry Honig](http://wijzijnfamilie.nl/individual.php?pid=I3325&ged=honig). Hieruit blijkt dat in navolging van zijn broer Catharinus (Maurice) ook Arie na aankomst in Amerika zijn voornaam heeft veranderd in een naam die door de Amerikanen makkelijker uit te spreken was.

    Hier zien we dat ook Jopie van naam is veranderd. In Amerika werd ze Joyce genoemd, wat voor de Amerikanen natuurlijk beter uit te spreken was.
    Laurina staat hier vermeld als Laurine. Hoewel het Amerikaanser klinkt en een naamswijziging zou kunnen zijn, denk ik dat hier sprake is van een spelfout. In latere registraties wordt ze namelijk weer als Laurina vermeld.
    Zoals gebruikelijk in Amerika werd Laurina/Laurine ook na de scheiding nog onder de naam Honig geregistreerd.

    Laurina en Joyce bleven na de scheiding van Harry in Flint wonen, waar Laurina als fabrieksarbeidster de kost verdiende voor hen beiden.

    Hier vinden we Laurina en Joyce (die hier weer Jopie wordt genoemd) terug op een passagierslijst van de SS Veendam, komend vanuit Rotterdam met bestemming New York.

    Laurina en Joyce (Jopie) zijn even terug naar Nederland geweest. Het is niet bekend of dit voor een langere periode was of slechts een (korte) vakantie betrof.

    Waarschijnlijk is het verblijf in Nederland de reden dat Joyce weer de naam Jopie is gaan gebruiken. In Nederland zal ze deze naam weer hebben gebruikt.

    Laurina geeft hier trouwens als geboorteplaats Leiden op. Oegstgeest ligt vlak bij Leiden en is niet uit te spreken/op te schrijven voor de Amerikanen, dus het is niet zo vreemd dat hier Leiden is genoteerd.
