Alfred's birth was registered in Hereford and he was in the 1891 census with his parents and younger sister Hilda.

They lived at 20 Richmond Street, Hereford.

He was in the 1901 census living with his parents and two siblingsat 8 Kendrick Rd., Barry.

He was already an errand boy at 14.

By the 1911 census he was living with his parents and his brother at 19 Lombard Street. He was described as a butcher's asst.

His family was strict Roman Catholic.

He married Alice in 1915 and they lived at 33 Brook Street, Barry.

He was killed in WWI serving as a gunner in the royal field artillery. He was fond of racing pigeons and had a pigeon coop in his house in Brook Street.

This house was where his son was born after his death and where Alfred junior lived withhis mother and sister (Frances) until he was married.

The silver cup awarded for his pigeon winning the race from Perth, Scotland in 1913 is still in the family's possession.
