Notes about Dominic Meally O'MALLEY

Subject: «b»RE: Bridget OMalley«/b» Hi Phil, distant cousin by marriage, She is the eldest child of Dom & Cathering Meally & sister to my gr gr grandfather John O'Malley. Somewhere along the way Meally changed to O'M - my line back to them is in brief: I am Annette Fraser b1950 married to Basil Morrow. We have 6 children and now 8 grandkids. I was the only child and daughter of Joyce O'Malley b1922 who married Bob Fraser. My mum was the eldest child (of 9)& daughter of Benjamin Patrick O'Malley b1900 & Adelaide E M Keep, Ben my gr-father was the youngest (16th child)son of John O'Malley 1849 & Mary Ann Brennan John was the eldest (4th child, your Bridget the eldest child) son of Dominic Meally b1812 and Catherine Meally who arrived in Aust 1841. Dom was a son of John Meally and ??Nolan according to John's death certificate. Interestingly Catherine's father was a John Meally too so this (being cousins) may be the reason for that but I have not been able to correctly identify the Johns. There was a story told to me when I was young that cousin married cousin, O'M married O'M. So I did not have a problem with this when I found the shipping records. Wish I could find their marriage details. I do have a strong feeling that they are related to the Forbes O'Malleys as the naming pattern is the same and I suspect that their John b1795 (convict who came out in 1832 on the City of Edinburgh ship, bro of Bridget, Honor, James, Patrick all convicted of sheep stealing) was either Catherine's or Dominic's father, more likely was Catherines. The family moved from Vic to the area where this other family was living. However that family's son John not our John became a bushranger and no one wanted to be related to him as the police then picked on you if you were. This maybe was when they changed the spelling of their name as many people disaccociated themselves from John's jnr family because of his outlawish ways. Houses were burnt down. What is your line like please? Where di you live? Any photos? Do you know Val Grimshaw? If you do please send my regards to her? I lost contact with her years ago when my computer crashed - could you link me with her too please? Tell her I now live near Newcastle airport at a place called Medowie in NSW. Regards Annette
