history, and find that I have connections with Whittington in that my great great grandfather lived there for a while and his wife was born there as were many of her family. My Great Great Grandfather was«b» Thomas Cureton«/b» who lived at Rock Farm in 1871. I gather from reading the two very interesting books produced by the History Society that there were in fact two Rock Farms, and I wonder if you have any idea which Rock Farm it was. His wife was Sarah A Bridgen who was born in Whittington. The family have always been told that my Great Grandmother Mary E Cureton (1860-1932) was born at the Bell Inn, and this seems possible as one of her mother's brothers John Bridgen was married to Mary E Pass, daughter of John Pass who was at the Bell in 1861. I believe the Cureton family moved to Lichfield soon after the birth and later lived at the Duke of York on Greenhill in the city.

may have about the farm or the Bridgen family.

;

From the census in 1861, Thomas Cureton, his wife Sarah, son Thomas and daughter Mary Elizabeth were living at the Duke of York in Greenhill, Lichfield. This fits in with what I had heard from the family, that Mary was born at the Bell Inn and moved to Lichfield when she was a young baby. They must have returned to live in Whittington within 10 years as they were at Rock Farm in 1871. However by 1881 they were again living in Greenhill Lichfield.

As for which Rock Farm it was, it appears from looking at addresses in thecensus for 1871, that there was a Rock Farm where Thomas Cureton farmed 34 acres and a Rock House where a Thomas Hall farmed. Perhaps in later years these both became known as Rock Farm.

In answer to your question as to how I am related: Thomas Cureton and Sarah Ann Bridgen were my Great, Great Grandparents. Their daughter Mary E Cureton was my Great Grandmother and she married Henry George Warmington in Lichfield in 1884. Mary and Henry had 4 sons and their eldest son, Harry was my Grandfather. Sadly I do not have any old photographs apart from one of my grandparents.

w Whittington during that time. After retirement my parents moved to Lichfield and then when my father died, my mother moved back to live in a bungalow in Elford. She still lives there, aged 92, and so although I now live in Shropshire I drive through Whittington on a weekly basis. When I saw the census return mentioning Rock Farm we went to look at where it is or was.

dgen family, John (1774-1862) and Mary (1780-1849) had numerous offspring between 1798 and 1829 living and working around Whittington. I wonder whether any of their descendants are still living in the village.
