Notes about Walter I Ogilvy

Patrick was born about 1290. younger son to Sir Patrick Ogilvy of that Ilk.

His wife was named Marjorie. Perhaps a daughter of Robert Ramsay of Auchterhouse. They had a son:

Walter

Patrick was granted the lands of Wester Powrie by his nephew Patrick Ogilvy of that Ilk. His grandson Walter was granted a ratification of the charter the lands of Wester Powrie from Alexander Ogilvy of that Ilk who was great nephew to this Patrick Ogilvy of Wester Powrie.

The charter of ratification was by Alexander Ogilvie, laird thereof, to Walter Ogilvie, son of deceased Walter Ogilvie, son of deceased Patrick Ogilvie, uncle of deceased Patrick Ogilvie, laird thereof, and to Marjorie, spouse of the first mentioned Patrick, of lands of Wester Purye, 26 September 1412 [sic]. Witnesses: William, bishop of St Andrews, Patrick, bishop of Brechin, William, abbot of Abyrbrocht, Hugh, abbot of Balmurinach, Thomas Stewart, earl of Angous, lord of Bonkill, Norman Leslie, Walter Leslye, Alexander Skrimschur of Abbirbrothe. John Balmossy, burgess of Dunde. Seal on tag. Note: this document dates only from the 16th century, and is either a copy of an earlier document now missing, but recorded in the Register of the Great Seal, 2 August 1428, or a later production. It is endorsed with a note stating that it should date from 1354x8. The Great Seal copy is without date.[1]

Thereafter he was described as Patrick Ogilvy of Wester Powrie.

The ratification made by Alexander Ogilvy of that Ilk also included a charter made by Archibald earl of Douglas and Annandale made in favour of his kinsman Patrick Ogilvy, scutifer (shield bearer), of the lands of Pitlyal [2] in the barony of Lundie. Pitlyal lay only a few miles west of Wester Powrie. The lands of Pitlyal were to pass down the generations through Ogilvy of Auchterhoue and then to James Stewart earl of Buchan on marriage of Margaret Ogilvy of Auchterhouse.

Patrick died about 1345.
