1647. Daniel De Blocq Van Scheltinga, geboren den 21 December 1621, was de zoon van Livius van Scheltinga, Secretaris van de Staten van Friesland, en Anna de Blocq, en gehuwd den 21 September 1645 met Martha, geboren den 3 October 1629, dochter van den Raadsheer Cornelis Kinnema en Romkjen Fockens, en had bij haar elf kinderen. Na zijne studiën, zoo te Franeker als elders, volbragt te hebben, promoveerde hij in de Regten te Angers in Frankrijk den 29 September 1643, en deed vervolgens eene reis van twee jaren door Frankrijk, Italië, Zwitserland en Duitschland; waarna hij, den 3 December 1644 te huis terug gekomen, tien dagen later Ontvanger Generaal van de Provincie werd. Omtrent twee jaren daarna (den 13 Augustus 1647) verkozen tot Grietman van Schoterland, bekleedde hij de voornaamste commissiën, zoo binnen als buiten het gewest; onder andere was hij mede gecommitteerd tot de Groote vergadering der Staten Generaal in 1650. Den 19 Julij 1686 werd hij, in plaats van Johaunes Rhala, Curator van de Franeker Academie. Hij deed in 1692 afstand van de Grietenij aan zijnen zoon, en overleed den 27 Januarij 1703; hij werd te Heerenveen begraven. Zijne weduwe stierf den 7 Januarij 1708 en werd bij haren man bijgezet
