Heer van Vianen en Ameide.
Hij volgde in 1531 zijn vader op als 11e heer van Brederode, heer van Vianen en burggraaf van Utrecht (verheffing van dit leen voor het leenhof van Karel V in 1532).
Hij kocht Havrincourt van zijn zwager Robert III van de Marck, heer van Sedan. Hij matigde zich de titel graaf van Holland aan, werd dientengevolge op 16 januari 1531 ter dood veroordeeld, doch begenadigd en opgenomen in de Orde van het Gulden Vlies. In 1534 moest hij van de graventitel afzien.
Beleend met het schoutambt van Bergen, houtvester en opperjager van Holland, werd lid van de Raad van State.
