Notes about Frederik II (de Zachtmoedige) Wettin Hertog van Saksen

Keurvorst van Saksen (1428); landgraaf van Thüringen (1440-1464); markgraaf van Meissen (1445) en Frauenstein (1439). In 1485 verdeelden de zoons Ernst en Albrecht onderling Saksen. Ernst kreeg Thüringen, Maagdenburg en Saksen; Albrecht kreeg Meissen. En zo ontstond de twee belangrijkste huizen van Saksen.

De bezittingen van het Huis Wettin werden na de dood van Frederik II van Saksen (Frederik de Zachtmoedige) verdeeld over zijn zonen Albrecht III en Ernst (Verdeling van Leipzig, 26 augustus 1485). Hierbij ontstonden de Albertijnse en Ernestijnse linie van het Huis Wettin. De Albertijnse linie leverde later de koningen van Saksen en Polen.
