De kunstschilder Willy Martens kocht het huis Sonnevanck aan de Groote Weg in Nunspeet in 1910 
In hetzelfde jaar kocht Martens het er naast liggende bouwterrein van 700 m2 van Maatschappij De Veluwe. Het volgende jaar wordt dat perceel omschreven als atelier en erf. De bouwtekening is aanwezig in de bouwdossiers van het Streekarchivariaat. Martens verkoopt zowel Sonnevanck als atelier in 1916 aan burgemeester Mackay, die Sonnevanck toen al enkele jaren van hem had gehuurd. Of bij de huur ook het atelier was betrokken is onbekend. Op grond van de op dit moment beschikbare documentatie valt niet uit te sluiten dat Martens het atelier tot 1916 zelf gebruikte
