In 1646 werd Aerdt c.a. door de weduwe van Willem van der Horst en haar kinderen verkocht aan Walraven van Steenhuys, heer van Oploo. Deze bouwde bij de plaats waar het slot Ter Cluse gestaan had een nieuw huis, dat de naam het "Huis Aerdt" kreeg.
In 1657 droeg Walraven van Steenhuys het huis Aerdt met omliggende goederen in leen op aan het hertogdom Gelre en het graafschap Zutphen en werd daarmede toen beleend.
