Notes about Johan Steenlack

STEENLACK (Johan), ged. 7 Jan. 1648, overl. 8 Nov. 1718, zoon van Gerrit Steenlack, die van 1671-1693 allerlei kleine stedelijke ambten te Rotterdam vervulde, en van Jannetge Kocks. In 1676 ontmoeten wij den jongen Steenlack daar als vendrig en langzamerhand bracht hij het tot kolonel der schutterij, wat hij van 1692-1705 geweest is. In 1692 werd hij gekozen tot vroedschapslid, wat hij tot zijn dood bleef; verschillende malen was hij in dien tijd burgemeester en herhaaldelijk gedeputeerde ter dagvaart. Bovendien zat hij van 1706-1709 in de Staten-Generaal. Bij zijn dood verscheen een grafschrift op hem van den dichter J. de Haes. Ook is over hem verschenen bij een uitgever, die zich Nemo Ignorantius noemde, een schimpdicht: Eerkroon voor den Edelen Groot Agtbaren Heer Johannes Klomp geboren vorst van Gietersburg, vrijheer van Maaszicht, ridder van de ordre van 's Konings hart, grootmeester der Westfalische Kroitsen, heer tot Kroonekerk enz. enz. Hij wordt o.a. hierin afgeschilderd als een werktuig van den baljuw van Zuylen van Nyevelt, want hij had behoord tot de schepenen, die Costerman ter dood veroordeelden. Ook op zijn derde echtgenoote werd een niet vleiender eerkroon bij haar afbeeldsel gemaakt.

Hij huwde 25 Mei 1671 met Maria Stender, 7 Nov. 1688 met Brigitta Croesen van Amsterdam en 2 Februari 1702 met Catharina Wilhelmina Waalewijns.
