George Willem hendrik baron van der Feltz, geboren op Vredeveld op 3 december 1739, was kapitein ter zee. Hij kwam om het leven toen zijn schip, het fregat ‘de Alphen’, op 15 september 1778 op de rede van Curaçao in de lucht vloog. Het lijk is, na de volgende dag bijna onherkenbaar verminkt uit het water te zijn gehaald, met militaire eer in een grafkelder te Curaçao bijgezet.
