Notes about Nicolaas Kien

KIEN (Nicolaas), zoon van Nicasius Kien en van Anna Cornelia Swanke, werd te Ostende, den 16den Mei 1600, geboren, en zag zich, even als zijn grootvader en vader dit waren geweest, tot commissaris-generaal van de vivres der vereenigde Nederlanden, den 5den April 1624, aangesteld.
In 1636 werd hij door den Franschen koning verheven tot Fransch edelman en tot ridder van de orde van St. Michiel, doch hij bedankte voor het aanbod hem gedaan, om in denzelfden rang in Fransche dienst over te gaan, op eene jaarwedde van vijf en twintig duizend gulden. De prins van Oranje schonk hem eene kompagnie van 200 soldaten.
Hij overleed te 's Gravenhage den 12den November 1648 en werd aldaar op den 20sten November in de Groote Kerk aldaar begraven, onder eene zerk, waarop zijn wapen, omhangen met de orde van St. Michiel. Hij was gehuwd met Catharina van den Honert, dochter van den raadsheer in den Hoogen Raad, Rochus van den Honert. Zij verwekten elf kinderen, waaronder 1. Thomas, geboren 1630, overleden ongehuwd te 's Hage den 9den October 1679, als commissarisgeneraal van de vivres; 2. Rochus, geboren den 16den Augustus 1636, door Jacobus, koning van Engeland, tot ridder verheven, gezant aan diens hof en vervolgens burgemeester van Zutphen. Hij huwde met Maria van Beaumont en verwekte 6 kinderen; 3. Johan, die volgt; 4. Nicasius, geboren in 1644 en gesneuveld den 11den April 1677 in den slag bij St. Omer als kapitein ten dienste dezer landen. Hij was gehuwd met Margaretha van der Does.
