Notes about Paulus Zubli

De familie Zubli komt oorspronkelijk uit het voormalige Zwitserse graafschap Toggenburg. Paulus Zubli emigreerde in de eerste helft van de 18e eeuw naar de toenmalige Nederlandse kolonie Guyana en trouwde daar met een Nederlandse. Zijn oudste zoon, Ambrosius Justus, vestigde zich in Amsterdam, nam deel aan het politieke leven en werd zelfs lid van de Nationale Vergadering. Bijna alle Zubli's hebben de Kerk of de Staat ambtelijk gediend. In 1875 trouwde Abraham Antoni Zubli met Anna Elisabeth Henriëtte Uloth. Hun enig overgebleven kind, Anna Elisabeth Henriëtte Zubli, werd al vroeg wees en opgenomen door haar tante en oom, Margaretha Geertruid Maria Daniëlle Tatum Zubli en Catharinus Elisa Bernardus Uloth. Van deze beide families was Anna Elisabeth Henriëtte de enig overgebleven nazaat en via haar zijn de archieven van de beide families bij elkaar gekomen.

Het archief bevat tevens bescheiden van de in de 19e eeuw te Amsterdam opgerichte firma Uloth Zubli, een scheepvaartverzekeringsmaatschappij, later de Nederlandsche Verzekering Compagnie tegen brandschade. In de inventaris zijn voornamelijk stukken aangetroffen uit de tijd van Catharinus Elisa Bernardus Uloth.

De familiepapieren belopen de periode van halverwege de 18e tot halverwege de 20e eeuw. De stukken afkomstig van de firma hebben betrekking op de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw tot en met het begin van de 20e eeuw.

Het archief is in 1962 aangemeld bij het Centraal Register Familiearchieven te Den Haag door de enig overgebleven nazaat van de families Zubli en Uloth, Anna Elisabeth Henriëtte Zubli.

In 2001 heeft de kleindochter van Anna Elisabeth Henriëtte Zubli, Cathrina van Voorst Vader, het archief aan het gemeentearchief Amsterdam geschonken.
