He married, firstly, Lady Elizabeth Churchill, daughter of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough and Sarah Jenyns, on 9 February 1703.
He married, secondly, Lady Rachael Russell, daughter of Wriothesley Russell, 2nd Duke of Bedford and Elizabeth Howland, on 4 August 1722.
He died on 11 January 1744/45 at age 63.
He was the son of John Egerton, 3rd Earl of Bridgwater and Lady Jane Powlett.
He succeeded to the title of 5th Baron of Ellesmere, co. Shropshire [E., 1603] on 19 March 1700/1.
He succeeded to the title of 4th Earl of Bridgwater [E., 1617] on 19 March 1700/1.
He succeeded to the title of 5th Viscount Brackley [E., 1616] on 19 March 1700/1.
He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire between 1702 and 1711.
