Linie Altenburg: Georgs V. Enkel Georg XII. (1647–1704), Sohn des Erbmarschalls Johann XII. (1607–76), kämpfte als Offizier u. a. in Holland und Frankreich (1672) und wechselte 1674 in span. Dienste (1675 Obristwachtmeister). Nach zwölf Jahren in der Verwaltung seiner Güter zog er 1688 in venetian. Dienst auf die ion. Inseln. Georg gilt als Erfinder einer speziellen Belagerungsmaschine. Sein Enkel Johann Hermann (1740–85) war Diplomat und Reiseschriftsteller (s. u.).
