SYPESTEYN (Cornelis Ascanius van), heer van Moermont, Renesse en Noord-Welle, zoon van den voorgaande, geb. te Haarlem 1723, gest. aldaar 1783. Na in de rechten gepromoveerd te zijn, volgde hij zijn vader achtereenvolgens in diens waardigheden op: lid van de vroedschap, schepen, burgemeester, stadhouder, baljuw en houtvester van de landen van Brederode. In 1773 stelden de staten van Holland hem aan tot ontvanger van 's Lands gemeene middelen. Zeer verdienstelijk heeft hij zich gemaakt als medeoprichter en voorzitter van de Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen te Haarlem (1752). Als zoodanig had men v.S. na zijn dood willen huldigen door het oprichten van een monument op zijn graf, waaraan de kinderen echter meenden hun toestemming te moeten onthouden.
Hij was gehuwd met Elisabeth Anna Slicher, geb. te 's Gravenhage 1726, gest. te Haarlem 1766. Uit dit huwelijk sproten 3 dochters en 2 zonen: Cornelis Ascanius en Wigbold (die volgt). De eerste, heer van Moermont, Renesse en Noord- Welle, werd lid van den haarlemschen magistraat en was tevens baljuw van Blois, dat zich toen ter tijd uitstrekte tusschen Krommeniedijk in het N. en het IJ in het Z.; zijn huwelijk met Johanna Cornelia van Diepenbrugge bleef kinderloos.
Zijn portret met moeder, broeder en zuster 1727, geschilderd door C. Troost, een portret en twee miniaturen door onbekende kunstenaars, zijn bij jhr. C.H.C.A. van Sypesteyn te 's Gravenhage.
