Notes about Johan Sigismund Graaf van Thun-Hohenstein

In 1623 kocht Christoph Simon Thun het grondgebied van Klášterec. Deze oprichter van de Bohemische tak van Huize Thun, verwierf hierdoor in 1629 de titel Rijksgraaf van Thun en Hohenstein. Michael Oswald heeft een belangrijke rol gespeeld in de geschiedenis van de stad door in 1639, tijdens de dertigjarige oorlog, het door brand vernietigde slot te laten vernieuwen. Tegelijkertijd werd ook de omgeving van het slot aangepakt, wat resulteerde in een baroktuin met de ‘Sala terrana’ en de sculpturen van Jan Brokoff. Michael Osvald liet verder een omvangrijk Engels park in de omgeving van het slot aanleggen, en dankzij hem werd ook de barokke Kerk van de Heilige Drie-eenheid gebouwd met het familiegraf van de familie Thun. Sindsdien hebben nakomelingen van de familie Thun het slot in bezit gehad, in principe zeker tot aan de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Tijdens hun heerschappij hadden zij veel invloed op de stad.
