Dit trouwen moet tussen 1798 (bij de volkstelling wordt hij immers nog als ongehuwd aangegeven) en 1802 plaats gevonden hebben, daar na 1802 dit
huwelijk niet te vinden is. Bij de volkstelling van 1829 wordt hij op Schutstraat 491 vermeld als gehuwd, 64 jaar, arbeider. Zijn vrouw wordt echter niet vermeld. Wel woont hij bij zijn ongehuwde zuster Alberdina in. De enige verklaring hiervoor is, dat hij op oudere leeftijd getrouwd is en dit huwelijk niet is geslaagd, zodat zijn vrouw waarschijnlijk weer naar haar plaats van oorsprong is vertrokken. Zij is in Hoogeveen n.l. niet te vinden, noch bij de volkstelling, noch later bij de overlijdens. Ze zijn dus niet officieel gescheiden, maar hebben tot zijn dood wel als gescheiden van tafel en bed geleefd.
