De familienaam is Niehues. In Hoogeveen werd hij meestal Nieuwenhuisgenoemd. Abram werd per 27 april 1894 met zijn vrouw en vier dochtersuitgeschreven in Hoogeveen wegens vertrek naar Hasselt in Overijssel.Per 17 juli 1896 zijn ze vervolgens naar Amsterdam gegaan en in 1914Michigan Noord Amerika.
Uit brieven vanuit Amerika aan de familie Warmels in Hoogeveen blijkt,dat in het voorjaar van 1907 een dochter van Abram Nieuwenhuis inHolland Michigan is komen wonen met haar man die timmerman is.
Op 16 januari 1914 blijkt dat in december 1913 Abram Niehuis, vanuitAmsterdam ook in Holland Mi is komen wonen, met zijn vrouw en tweejongens en twee meisjes. Abram is al een oud man maar nog flink voorzijn jaren schrijft Jantje Hooyer er bij. Op 3 maart 1916 schrijftJantje er bennen twee jongens van Trui Niehuis overgekomen, die enemoest hem aangeven voor dienst zij zijn hier bij hun grootvader AbramNiehuis. Al de kinderen van Abram Niehuis zijn nu hier behalve Trui
