Notes about Charlotte van Savoye

Charlotte van Savoye (?, 11 november 1441 – Amboise, 1 december 1483) was, door haar huwelijk met Lodewijk XI, koningin van Frankrijk.

Zij was een dochter van hertog Lodewijk van Savoye en van Anna van Lusignan, prinses van Cyprus. Lodewijk XI trad met haar in het huwelijk zonder degoedkeuring van zijn vader Karel VII. Het huwelijk werd ingezegend te Chambéry op 14 november 1451, maar omdat Charlotte toen nog een kind was, werdhet pas veel later geconsummeerd. Na de breuk met zijn vader, volgde Charlotte haar echtgenoot in ballingschap naar de Bourgondische Nederlanden,waar hij in 1461 vernam dat Karel VII overleden was.

Na de kroning leefde Charlotte van Savoye sober en teruggetrokken, veronachtzaamd door haar gierige echtgenoot, die haar amper de nodige toelage gundeom er een bescheiden hofhouding op na te houden. Ze overleefde haar echtgenoot amper drie maanden, en overleed in Amboise op 1 december 1483. Hetkoningspaar werd begraven in de kerk Notre-Dame-de-Cléry, in de buurt van Orléans.
