Notes about Dirk Koffrie

Bijnaam Dove Dorus. Dronk in zijn schaarse vrije tijd graag een borreltje waardoor hij soms met zijn ladder in de heg bleef steken. Bron Baerne 1 - maart 1989. Werd in 1927 officieel benoemd tot gemeenteomroeper. Hij beoefende dit vak tot aan zijn dood in 1954. Er waren zeven vaste punten in Baarn, waar hij zijn berichten omriep. Wie hem iets wilde laten meedelen, schoof 's morgens vroeg het desbetreffende bericht samen met twee gulden vijftig onder zijn deur door en de opdracht werd nauwgezet uitgevoerd. Of het nu berichten over weggelopen honden of katten waren of over vrijbankvlees van het abattoir, "Dove Dorus" deed plichtsgetrouw zijn werk. Na de vlucht van Rudolf Hess naar Engeland in mei 1941, ging er echter iets mis. Onbekenden hadden die ochtend het volgende bericht onder zijn deur doorgeschoven: "Heden weggelopen Duitse herdershond, luisterend naar de naam Hess. Terug te bezorgen aan het politiebureau." Op drie punten werd dit bericht door Doris omgeroepen, alvorens hij werd gearresteerd. Gelukkig kwam hij spoedig vrij, omdat zelfs de Duitsers begrepen, dat hij het slachtoffer van een grap was. Naast dorpsomroeper oefende Dirk Koffrie ook het beroep van schoorsteenveger uit. In de oorlogsjaren werd Dirk aangesteld als ophaler van schillen en groenteafval. Hij zat achter zijn paardje zijdelings op het karretje met schillen. In 1947 legde hij zijn beroep als dorpsomroeper neer en vermaakte zijn bekkens aan de oudheidkamer waardoor ze nog steeds bewaard zijn. Op latere leeftijd werd Dirk heilsoldaat. Na zijn bekering dronk hij niet meer en kon men hem op zondagmiddag steevast vinden bij de Oranjeboom, waar het leger een dienst hield. In zijn groenteschuur werd zondagsschool gehouden onder leiding van broeder J. Gerretsen. De kinderen zaten op omgekeerde groentekistjes. Het aantal leerlingen nam in de maand december meestal sterk toe, omdat tijdens het Kerkfeest chocolademelk en een sinaasappel aan de kinderen werd uitgereikt.
