Maria Hubertina Vleming (1844-1905) was het eerste hoofd van de Bewaarschool op Christelijke Grondslag aan de Achterstraat, de huidige Burgemeester Penstraat, te Baarn. De school werd geopend op 5 juli 1866. Het aantal leerlingen nam gestaag toe zodat al na 2 jaar verhuisd werd naar een groter gebouw aan de Schoolstraat. De grond werd hiervoor afgestaan door Prins Hendrik en zijn echtgenote Amalia van Saxen Weimar Eisenach. Op 28 juli 1869 kon het nieuwe gebouw worden geopend. Het kreeg de naam Amaliaschool. Mej. Vleming heeft maar liefst 39 jaar aan het hoofd gestaan totdat ze in 1905 overleed. Ze werd opgevolgd door Wilhelmina Femmetje Huijsman (1872-1950). Zij bleef hoofd van de school tot 1932 en werd opgevolgd door Helena Johanna Dissel (1889-1971). Juffrouw Dissel was reeds vanaf 1923 aan de school verbonden. In 1928 werd de school vergroot om het groeiend aantal leerlingen te kunnen herbergen. In 1951 werd juffrouw Dissel opgevolgd door Clazina van Dijkhuizen (1920-2009). In 1959 bestond de school 100 jaar. Juffrouw Dissel werd in 1979 opgevolgd door mej. Agatha Maria Spil (1952-2013).
