Jozeph werd op 26 september 1870 geboren in Bonfeld. Hij en Aaltje Schlesinger-van der Hoeden, geboren op 4 oktober 1909 in Nijkerk werden in het Baarnse bevolkingsregister ingeschreven op 25 februari 1939. Beiden met de aantekening Nederlands-Israëlitisch. Ze trouwden op 14 maart 1939 in Baarn. Zoals verscheidene andere joodse Baarnaars vertrokken zij in 1942, waarschijnlijk onvrijwillig, naar Amsterdam. Van daaruit zijn ze naar kamp Vught getransporteerd. Van Vught kwamen zij op 29 september 1943 in Westerbork aan. Op 8 februari 1944 vertrok hun trein naar Auschwitz. Zoals zoveel anderen zijn ook zij kort na aankomst vermoord. Beiden kwamen daar op 11 februari 1944 om het leven.
