De redactie ging deze week shoppen bij Hornsveld aan de Hoge Larenseweg 251 in Hilversum. Eigenaar Gijs Gruter: ,,De winkel is destijds gestart aan de Hilvertsweg. Mevrouw Hornsveld, de moeder van Henk Hornsveld, had er oorspronkelijk een melkwinkel. Henks vader was schilder en is overleden toen Henk een tiener was. Henk is net als zijn vader schilder geworden. De melk in de winkel heeft toen plaatsgemaakt voor verf. In 1934 kwam dit pand vrij en is Hornsveld hierheen gekomen. Op 1 september 1978 werd Henk Hornsveld 65 jaar. Toen heb ik de winkel overgenomen. Het was toen trouwens nog voor de helft drogisterij, die combinatie zag je vroeger wel vaker.''

Hornsveld doet in onder meer verf en behang, maar heeft elk jaar voor oud en nieuw ook vuurwerk in het assortiment: ,,Daar zijn we elf jaar geleden mee begonnen. Het eerste jaar nog kleinschalig. Elk jaar werd het iets groter. We begonnen met twee man en een toonbankje en eentje achter die de pakketten pakte. Op een gegeven moment stond er buiten een rij, bijna tot aan de rotonde. Dat was natuurlijk geen reclame voor ons: mensen zagen die enorme drukte en reden gauw door naar een ander. We pakken het sindsdien anders aan: één lange toonbank dwars door de winkel waar mensen omheen lopen en dan zo weer buiten staan. We staan hier volgende week met wel twintig man. Allemaal familie, vrienden en kennissen. We beginnen om half negen en gaat tot 's avonds door. Op oudejaarsavond ben ik er dan ook wel klaar mee. Na 'Enschede' hebben we natuurlijk behoorlijk moeten investeren: in twee nieuwe bunkers, sprinklers en brandvertragende materialen.''
