      In 1900 zien we een advertentie in de krant staan waarin zij een aantal leerlingen vraagt. Misschien al tijdens het huwelijk, maar op zijn minst na het overlijden van Constantius is zij een zakenvrouw en maakt en verkoopt ze hoeden. Het lijkt succesvol als er om een paar leerlingen wordt gevraagd.

      Toch zien we ook tekenen van het voortzetten van het modevak. In maart 1904 bericht de Enkhuizer Courant volgende "Hiermede bericht ondergeteekende de ontvangst der nieuwe STALEN. Beleefd aanbevelend: Wed. C.J. Baesjou".
      In mei van dat jaar zien we dat het stalen betreft van Bruning en Muren. Dat is een Manufacturen Magazijn uit Amsterdam. Overigens verkoopt dat bedrijf ook zeep.
      Het lijkt er op dat Barthlomea haar assortiment slim uitgebreid heeft en nu een soort van kruidenierszaak of winkel van sinkel heeft. Ze verkoopt vanaf de Breestraat in Enkhuizen.
      Het is niet duidelijk of ze daarbij ook nog hoeden maakt en verkoopt.

      Hoe dan ook, ze is een echte zakenvrouw. En hoewel het een grote klap geweest zal zijn dat haar man zo jong al overleed, zij was toen pas 35 jaar oud, heeft het er wel voor gezorgd dat ze zelfstandig kon handelen en beslissen. Als hij nog had geleefd, had hij financieel verantwoordelijk geweest en zou de handel waarschijnlijk via hem moeten verlopen.

      Het is sowieso knap hoe ze zich heeft weten te redden. Als Bartholomea weduwe wordt zijn haar kinderen ca. 11, 10, 9, 8, 5 en 1 jaar oud.
