Notes about Martha Suzanne Pontier

Hi friends and family of Martha Pontier,
This is Jeannie, Martha’s big sis’. I was with Martha since last Mon. April 15th.

Martha is with her great Dad, Raymond Pontier and with her even Greater FATHER, Jesus. We miss her so and know we will join her in REAL LIFE when God calls us.

Monday, April 15 - The Morse family, David, Anna, JonMark and I went to join Martha and Brianna, my bro’ Ron’s daughter, at Amani Acre for a vacation.

Tuesday, we had a fun BBQ beach party sitting in those same chairs pictured on Martha’s facebook wall by the Indian Ocean.

Wednesday, early afternoon Martha had a fever and went to Mombasa Hospital to get meds for the fever and a stomach ache. After blood tests the out-patient Dr. hospitalized her with IV for fever, pain and an antibiotic. Anna stayed overnight with her in a nice big private room with a private balcony with chairs and table out there overlooking the inlet and Indian Ocean. The room had air conditioning, fan, refrigerator, TV tons of channels, a bed with pillow and sheets for Anna too … nice! Martha did not sleep well due to fever.

Thursday, fever hadn’t gone down (103-104). A highly recommended doctor (Dr. R) was called, more tests were done. Bacteria was seen in the blood and antibiotics increased by triple. I spent the day and night with her. She was restless from stomach pain. She slept a few hours that night.

Friday, Fever gone by mid-morning, stomach hurt. Dr. R said she could go home Sat. morning but wanted her on IV antibiotics ‘till then. I spent a second night and Martha didn’t sleep because diarrhea began and got worse.

Saturday, no fever but bad diarrhea and pain, more tests found bacteria in stool. I left at 10 am to get sleep. After 4 hours Anna called. Martha looked blue. The nurses saw her blue feet and immediately she was on oxygen. Martha was not always making sense and she was in pain even with pain meds. I just held her. Dr. R called two more Drs. They did ultrasounds, X-rays, and CT Scans and more. I left at 11pm while doctors were still with her ‘till past mid-night. A friend, Mary, Patrick’s wife stayed.

Sunday, (David sent Brianna and Jon Mark by bus to Nairobi and on to Kijabe. Arrival day for their school, RVA, was Monday). Early am Martha was in ICU. She tried to talk to me but couldn’t. This was extremely hard for me. Martha was incubated and put on a respirator at 10am. I cried! An Africa Inland Mission doctor arrived in an hour and was in phone consultation with an AIM Kijabe team of Drs. as well as the Mombasa Drs. CT Scans were retaken along with other tests. Martha had a bacteria, but that’s all they knew. Late morning, plans began to fly her to Johannesburg, South Africa. Around noon her temp’ returned, blood presser and blood clotting was not good. Plans for S.A. delayed, glitches with insurance. Waiting was agony. Martha began to bleed internally. Many people came and prayed with us. We were not alone. A Muslim man gave each of us fresh bottles of water. His 84 yr. old dad was in ICU too.
Around 9:00pm (?) the Dr. from the ambulance plane for S.A. arrived. He took 3 hrs assessing Martha’s condition. He called S.A. and because Martha’s condition was going down so fast and with no diagnosis the Ports Authority of S.A. changed their minds, S.A. was not an option. Just after mid-night Martha was flown to Nairobi Hosp. David went on the flight.

Monday in ICU, Drs from Nairobi and Kijabe tried to help for 12 hours. At 2:00pm Jesus wrapped Martha in His arms. Dear friends reading, this is REAL!! She is smiling in His face, so happy to be with her savior and friend! He smiled at her and said, “Well done, my faithful Martha.” She is with the love of her life. (why then are we so sad?)

At 2:00, Anna and I bucked up to fly Mombasa to Nairobi David called. We had a good hour to cry. The flight attended handed us a box of tissues. AIM provided ground transport, meals, paper work, and preparation for funeral … so much! THANK YOU AIM.

THANK YOU EVERYONE who prayed and cared and wrote us. Your words comfort us. God is using you to help us. Keep writing to (XXXXX@XXXX.XXX) or Facebook, Jeannie Pontier Morse.

Unbelievable!! (My constant thought.)
My prayer, “Jesus, give Martha a hug from me.” I love her.

When we find out what she died of we will let you know.

April 28 Sunday 4:00pm Funeral at Kijabe Martha will be buried next to other amazing missionaries. Martha worked at Kijabe before Amani Acre and has many friends here.
Next week in Mombasa we will have a service at Amani Acre in the big pavilion she built. We will celebrate Martha’s life. I don’t know the day yet.

Betty Pontier (Mom), Ron (bro’) and Donna Pontier and Carol Allen (sis’) arrive from USA tomorrow
In Jesus’ love,
Jeannie Pontier Morse
