Hendrika Hofhuis heeft in 1823 noch de heksen proef ondergaan, nadat ze was aangeklaagt door een familie lid Jenneken ter Horst waar ze op een kraam vecite niet welkom was. Nadat ze de kleren uitgetrokken had en een broek van haar man had aan getrokken werd ze met een touw onder de armen door haar zwager Berend Buursink te water gelaten in de Twickelervaart. Ze ging direct onder water, waardoor ze bewees geen heks te zijn, waarop ze aan het touw weer uit het water werd gehaald. Zij was de laatste die in Twenthe de heksen proef heeft ondergaan.
