    Cornelis de Back was runner op de sleep, de Britse zuiger "Port Sunlight", en in dienst van de firma Wijsmuller.
    De sleep was tijdens de zware herfststorm in de nacht van 6 op 7 dec. 1959 losgeslagen van de sleepboot "Titan". Dit gebeurde op ongeveer 12 mijl ten Noordosten van het Humer lichtschip. Pogingen om de sleep opnieuw vast te maken mislukten. De 4 bemanningsleden aan boord van de sleep heden besloten om met de rubberboot de zuiger te verlaten. 2 van hen werden later op de dag teruggevonden op de kust. de andere twee werden vermist.
    Het lichaam van Cornelis de Back werd omstreeks 20 Jan 1959 gevonden. Hij was aangespoeld op de kust bij Skipsea onder Hull.
