Dit schip stoomde direct op om de matroos over te nemen. Maar door het slechte zicht konden de schepen elkaar pas maandag avond vinden. Leendert van der Boon is op 05-07-1937 overleden aan boord van de HMS "Jan van Brakel" om 10.00 uur op plus/minus 56 graad 32 min 30 sec noorderbreedte en 1 graad 42 min Oosterlengte. Zijn lichaam op 6 juli in Den Helder binnen gebracht.
