Emmo had theologie gestudeerd in wittenberg en was getrouwe leerling van Luther. Van omstreeks 1543 tot zijn overlijden was hij een van de eerste evangelische pastoren in Greetsiel. Hij was Erfgesetene. Zij kregen 6 kinderen.
