Pieter en Maria woonden op de Schiedamseweg 60, Delfshaven en later Juliananlaan 127, Bilthoven. Volgens tante Sophie (vrouw van jacobus van Spijk - broer) waren ze een knap stel en woonden eerst in Schiedam; hij was lang en sterk, zij was wat kleintjes uitgevallen.
Pieter was avontuurlijk aangelegd en tekende bij het Oost Indisch leger, waar hij jaren diende. Hij had eens vreselijk slecht weer ervaren omdat hij zeichzelf aan de mast vast moest binden: hij beloofde daarna aan zijn moeder dat hij niet meer overzee zou gaan. Ze waren lid van de gereformeerde kerk. Later werd hij politieman - hij kwam veel in contact met de jenever distillerijen>later ging zijn gezondheid snel achteruit waardoor op pensioen ging. Hun zonen Gerrit en Joseph hielpen hen om in een ander huis te wonen met de rest van de kinderen.
Gerrit die kinderloos bleef bleef dat doen samen met zus Rika tot hun dood.
