Myrtle Harriet Berrett Maathuis
Myrtle Harriet Berrett Maathuis, 95, died Wednesday, July 12, 2012 at her home. She was born October 31, 1916 in North Ogden, Utah, daughter of Thomas Francis and Harriet Lydia Brown Berrett, the sixth of eight children.
She learned many valuable homemaking skills while growing up on a farm and happily shared these with her posterity and friends. She graduated from Weber High School in 1934.
She was married to Henry Maathuis on May 18, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they shared 64 wonderful years together before his passing in 2002.
Myrtle was blessed with a bright mind and many talents. She was a good musician and served as the ward organist from her teenage years until she was in her eighties. She skillfully pieced and quilted countless quilts, sewed many clothing items, crocheted, and did beautiful embroidery. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Camp Golden, and volunteered many hours sharing her rich heritage. She especially loved the Weber County DUP Museum.
Myrtle was a faithful member of the LDS Church and believed in her Savior, Jesus Christ. She leaves behind a legacy of treasured memories, love and devotion.
She is survived by daughters, Elaine (Paul) Bryner, Ogden, and Lois J Maathuis, Auburn, WA, 6 beloved grandchildren and 8 precious great-grandchildren; a sister Doris Wright and a brother, Mark Berrett. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Diane (Edward) Capell, a granddaughter, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
She is married to Henry Maathuis.
They got married on May 18, 1938 at Salt Lake DCS, she was 21 years old.Source 1
