    Garret was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in the 12th Air Force, 17th Bombardment Group, 95th Bomber Squadron, Meditteranean and European Theaters of Operations. He was a tail gunner and bombardier on B-26 Marauder medium bombers. Garret served from 1944 to 1945 and was a sergeant upon his release from active duty.
    Garret married Rita Labedz after the death of Rose.
    He died on July 29, 2003 in Burr Ridge, Illinois.
